OL2003 is autodeleting messages from an IMAP folder

I did a search in this group, and only seeing one other similar occurrence
(and noting that the suggestions Brian Tillman did not help).

User has an IMAP account.

All messages are arriving into her inbox normally.

When she double clicks on a message with an attachment to open it (she has
Preview turned off), the message is *automatically* being marked for
deletion. Note that this only happens if the message has an attachment -
messages without attachments are treated normally.

If she UNmarks the message for deletion, she can open & close the message
at will without it being incorrectly marked for deletion.

She has no Rules.
She has no Add-ins.

Any suggestions?

I don't know of anything in Outlook itself that will do that. Does she have
an antivirus or -spam program integrated with Outlook? If so, she should
try disabling that integration.

No Antispam. The Antivirus program is Symantec Corp 10.x. It does not
delete messages (and even if it did, it wouldn't be able to do it on an
IMAP account).

Symantec's programs are well known to cause all sorts of side effects in
Outlook. As I said, if it has the ability to scan mail, that feature should
be disabled. While I don't guaranteee it will work, humor me and make sure
that feature is disabled. You may have to uninstall the program and
reinstall it without the mail integration feature to truly disable it.
