Since somewhere in 2004, many users have reported Outlook 2003 SP1 won't
send their email out on the correct email account, instead sending the
message on one of their other accounts. This problem, a.k.a. the Outlook
2003 SP1 SMTP Address Change Bug, has been acknowledged in several newsgroup
messages by Jeff Stephenson [MSFT], Outlook Development. As per today
(06-Sep-2005), this problem still has not been published in MSKB...
For details, please search Google Newsgroups for <"outlook 2003" "default
mail account"> and find numerous reports and discussions about this. In his
contributions, Jeff Stephenson [MSFT] stated several times that setting
"outgoing server (SMTP) to require authentication" would solve this problem
and therefore an initially planned hotfix would NOT be published.
Unfortunately, judging from the newsgroups, for many users (including me)
this has NOT solved the problem.
Also, my Diagnostic Logging does never show any so-called '550' error, often
referred to.
Nevertheless, OL2003 keeps sending Replies and Forwards (New messages are
NOT affected by this bug) using wrong email accounts.
Today, I couldn't find any current messages about this. Please help:
1) What can be done to solve (or work around) this long-time, annoying bug?
2) Will MS ever provide a solution for this?
