OL2007 signature gone when recipient opens my message

I have added a Signature button to the Outlook 2007 Quick Access Toolbar so
I can press Alt, 2, and then select the signature I want to add to any
particular message. Occasionally, I have noticed in replies sent back to me
by customers, that my signature was not present at the bottom of my quoted
message. It made me wonder if my signature was remaining in my messages.
Today, a customer notified me that my message had no signature. (It ended
with "Sincerely,".)

Why are my signatures apparently disappearing after I insert them?

Thanks,
Gene

Most likely cause is that Outlook creates your signature in HTML (XML) and
your recipients are receiving text or rich text only. Do you have a graphic
in your signature?

My signature is a text only signature (no graphic), and messages I create
are text only. I normally do not create messages in HTML or Rich Text, and
do not use Word for creating messages.

I most often am responding to a message a customer sends me, so perhaps my
signature is disappearing depending on the nature of the message I am
responding to. I just checked the original message from the customer who
told me my signature disappeared. Her original message was HTML. I simply
clicked reply, typed my message and entered my signature (Alt, 2, Enter).
However, this means my reply was also HTML. When her reply to my reply came
back, my signature was not at the bottom of my message, which she had
quoted.

Does give you any more clues?

Thanks,
Gene

I tried to duplicate your problem but no luck. If I send myself an email and
reply, the signature is still visible (I used two different accounts for the
test).

Does this happen to anyone you reply to within your own organziation?

Sorry to delay my response; been very busy.

Since we are a (very) small business with all of us in the same room we do
not often send mail to each other. :)

I just sent 2 messages to myself from another computer using OL2007, one
message in text and one in html. I replied to both messages from this
computer using OL2007, adding my signature in the normal way. Both messages
arrived with the signature intact. So with my little test I cannot duplicate
the problem.

I just looked at the "right click: Message Options: Internet Headers" (what
used to be called View Source, I think) of the message from the customer who
did not receive my signature. She is on a Novell Groupwise system,
apparently using something called "Novell Groupwise Internet Agent" for her
email. Could that have something to do with the problem? Could it be her and
not my OL2007?

Thanks for your help,
Gene

I have quite a few clients that have Groupwise and have not had my signature
removed in replies. However, it may be possible that Groupwise may be set up
differently.

Dear Allan,

I have gone back through the entire history of correspondence with this one
customer, and am beginning to wonder if I either forgot to add my signature,
or perhaps hurriedly pressed the wrong key combination to enter it, or
something else. Even though I have seen my signature missing in the replies
of several customers, no one else has ever actually told me it was missing.
Maybe the fault is mine and not a software problem (a problem somewhere
between the chair and the keyboard!).

Thank you for your help and suggestions. I think I will let it rest for now,
and go back to entering it from the Quick Access toolbar, as before. I may
also set it to add the signature automatically. I have not done that up till
now because I sometimes use different signatures, depending on the nature of
the message. But it might be a good idea to automate it to prevent this from
happening again.

Best wishes,
Gene

Dear Allan,

I believe I have found the problem. I have several accounts within Outlook,
and use them for the different hats I wear (support, sales, personal, etc.).
Yesterday I received a message on one account, clicked reply, wrote my
reply, added my signature, then decided to send it using a different
account. When I changed accounts the signature disappeared!

So it seems all I need to do is add the signature after I select the
account.

Thanks for your attention and suggestions.

Best wishes,
Gene
