This seems like a minor qualm, but it's pretty annoying... and a glaring
user interface inconsitency. I use the "Hide When Minimize" option of
Outlook 2007, but Outlook is the only app that I have to mentally "switch
gears" and remember to hit minimize instead of close to dismiss the main
window. Imagine you use OneNote and Outlook. Both put icons in the
notification area (tray) right next to each other. But, OneNote can be
closed and the tray icon merrily remains so you can do stuff like use WIN+N
to create a quick side note or screen clipping.
In fact, I have a bunch of icons that all behave one way... and one
(Outlook) that behaves inexplicably totally different. For instance,
Messenger, Sync Center, Sidebar, etc. If I close my Sidebar (right-click on
sidebar and select close), yup!.. it stays in the notification area like it
should so I can easily show it again.
Is there any way to make Outlook behave like every other app that uses the
"tray?" Meaning, allow it to *run in the background* even if you close the
main window (so you receive new mail notifications, calendar reminders,
etc).
