OL98 hangs

Environment: OL98 and WinXP SP2

This morning when I came to check my email I clicked on Inbox and got
a continuous hourglass for the cursor. I had to use task manager to
close OL98. I've not been able to get back to a working environment
since that problem and here are the steps I've tried:

1) reinstalled OL98, and tried to reload my outlook.pst, the import
froze when it got to the calendar

2) ran scanpst.exe on the outlook.pst file, only found minor
inconsistencies, still freezes when importing at the calendar

3) tried to import a 2 month old copy of the outlook.pst and still
freezes when importing the calendar

I need some suggestions about what to look for to get back to a
working OL!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Why import, simply open the pst

Good question.

In my normal use of OL I never "open" pst files so in my rush to try
and resolve my problem I've probably used some incorrect procedures.
After I reinstalled OL98 I thought I had to import the pst file rather
than open so that is what I did.

Nevertheless, here is what I know now. In my Outlook Today I have all
the usual folders and all have what I expect in them except the
calendar, which is now blank except the entry "Welcome to Calendar".
Then, in a separate "Personal Folders" I have another folder labeled
"Calendar" which appears to have my previous calendar information.
But, whenever I ckick on this folder Outlook will freeze. What steps
can I take to try and recover my calendar entries?

Doing a little web searching I came across the following web page
(below) which matches my situation exactly. I tried to follow the
procedure described on the page below and I found that I have the same
situation as the last poster in this string (all calendar events found
in Advanced Find cause a hang), but there is no follow up to this last
inquiry. Does anyone have an additional tip before I start manually
entering a couple of hundred appointments back into my outlook
calendar???
