OLAP - All projects showing up???

I am seeing something strange in the OLAP cube. I build a simple view
of resources by project across a time dimension. I add work into the
data area and you see only projects assigned to each person show up as
it is suppose to. So far so good, but then when we add
"availability" column to the data area next to work now every
project in the database shows up under each person's name even when
they are not assigned. Any ideas?

Could you give me the exact specifications for this Portfolio Analyzer view?
What dimensions/fields are in the following drop areas:

Filter Fields
Row Fields
Column Fields
Total Fields

I will reconstruct your custom View and determine if I have the same
problem, and if so, perhaps determine a solution as well. Let me know.

Hi kevin,
what measures do you choose and what dimensions do have have in the view and
have they a filter?
thanks
Marc

Hi Marc,

Measures - Work, Avaiability
Dimensions - Resources, Projects
Filters - None used

I see the same behavior as you. I believe the software is behaving as
designed, even though that is what you are not expecting. Think of your
View this way:

1. When you add Resources and Projects to the Row Fields drop area, and
then add Work to the Total Fields drop area, the View shows you only those
resources who members of a project team and are assigned Work.

2. When you add the Availability to the Total Fields drop area, EVERY
resource has availability regardless of whether they are assigned to
projects or not. Thus, the View changes to show everyone.

Hope this helps.

What to say, Dale has it under control :)
As Dale suggested Kevin, this is a functionality that is intended.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for getting back with me. You have stated that this was the way
it was intended, and from what I can see this seems to be the way it
works under a SP2A build. I have created the same views under a SP1
build and it works as I except (shows only projects assigned) I can
send you screen shots if you like. I am wondering if I have found
another problem with the latest service pack release. I see a real
problem with "as intended" if an organization has say a thousand
1000 and I use this view, one has to scroll through the 1000 projects
(not much fun). Do you have a SP1 build to test this?

I do not have a Project Server with SP1, so I cannot test it. Yes, perhaps
you have found an issue with SP2a. Hope this helps.
