OLAP Calculate function problem using Project Outline code value

J

Jason Leung

I set up a project outline code #12 , defined it as numeric and named it as
Probability. I attempted to use OLAP calculate function to multiply this
outline code with Work but it failed.
The outline code value itself was displayed as numeric value from OLAP
properly but the calculate function displaced Formula error - cannot find
dimension member.... when I multiplied it with Work.
The first formula I used was [Measures].[Work]*[Project Probability].[Level
02]
I also tried using [Measures].[Work]*[Measures].[Project Probability] and
[Measures].[Work]*[Measures].[Enterprise Project Outline Code12]
None of them is working.
The purpose for this is to estimate the equivalent workload for all the
uncommitted projects by applying a probability factor to all the work.

Any help is much appreaciated.

Jason,
Project Outline Codes are Dimensions in the OLAP cube. Only Measures are
valid to either drop in the totals area or use in a calculation.

You'll have to extend the cube to get this value in as a measure.

Jason Leung

Ed, I tried to extend the OLAP cube many times, following the procedures from
various sources and none of them was successful. The closest I could get was
the custom codes to show up as new dimensions on the cube but the measures
are either all zero out or lumped into "No value" instead of the intended
break-out. I found no real success story in either Project.developers or
project.server discussion groups relating to OLAP extension. If you know
anyone who has done it successfully, please let me know.

book mark for your site. if it is different, you can send me the new link.
I will try it one more time if you are so sure that it will work. It should
not take me long to prove it one way or the other because I have done it many
times before.
As I recall, I need a passcode to activate your program. Will you be able to
send me the new passcode or you want me to request it through the Web page?
Please also understand if this time with your personal help, it still proven
your procedure cannot extend the OLAP successfully and provide the proper
breakout values, I will post a bitter message on this site similar to the one
I came across earlier in the project.server site.
If it is successful, I actually owe you an apology.

Vadim, Thank you very much for your help. I created a brand new Project
Server 2003 test environment to conduct a evaluation of your Portfolio
Analysis Extender (PAE). So far I was able to add a project text code as a
new dimension and also add the project number as a new measure to the OLAP
cube. Although the grand total for the project number was not calculated
properly, this is not a surprise to me because even the availability measure
which comes with the original OLAP does not calculate totals properly.
The important thing is that your PAE program can extend the OLAP cube with
both new dimensions and new measures. I am also quite pleased with the user
friendliness of your PAE.
The new project number in the cube can actually solve my original problem of
trying to multiply the probabilty to the work. I tested the OLAP View
Calculation function with that and it was working properly. It successfully
used the project number1 which I renamed as probability in the cube and
multiplied it by the work.
I will be doing further tests to evaluate the resource codes and adding the
week to the Time dimension and I will let you know my test results shortly.
Best Regards
Jason
