OLAP connecting problem

Arno

Ha,

All of a sudden (at least so it appears to me) I can't connect the the OLAP
cubes. I get an error when I want to use the Portfolio Analyzer.
"Unable to access the Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Analyzer OLAP
cube."
Updating the OLAP cube gives also an error.

I ran PSComPlus again and I followed KB324836.
Still no success.

Anyone an idea?

Regards,

Arno

Hi Arno,

quite interested in an answer too. I asked this two or three weeks ago
without success! So one advice was quite good, look into the Event-Log of
the Project-Server, and you will recognize a bunch of errors, even if you
can create an OLAP-Cube without any obvious error in the Project-Center.
If you find the solution (and get hands on pc11dsn) let me know.... You
should install the Analysis-Services on both servers, the Project-Server
and the SQL-Server. I followed all this steps, but it doesn't work
either.

Hi Henry,

Saw your question googling :)

Why should I install AS on both servers??? That shouldn't be nessecary.
All the events in the error-log say a security failure. But I ran PSComPlus
just te be sure...

Hi,

One thing you can check is the roles on the OLAP cube.
This can be done in Analysis Manager, right click the
OLAP cube. Make sure that the database is there.

If it is, Select edit, and check the Membership (This
should contain the OLAP Administrators Group), Cubes
(Make sure all cube names are selected).

Then click OK and close the analysis manager.

Now try running the OLAP Cube.

You need the DSO stuff for communication, and this comes along with AS. I
installed the complete AS on the Project-Server, what is not required and
possibly the reason why my set-up isn't working (but due to what
reason???) It is sufficient to install this already checked DSO package.

There are a number of possibilities. Firstly, it's very helpful to have the
error messages from the server application event log. Without that
information, we can't glean anything more specific from your posts:

Are you certain that the OLAP admin account hasn't expired or become locked
in some way?
Have there been recent network changes such as DNS?

Gary:

I'm certain.Just to be sure I made myself OLAP admin and used PSComPlus. And
if PSComPlus fails it returns an error. No DNS changes either.

The error when I want to generate a new cube:

Component: PCSViews
File: ViewsDrop.cls
Line: -1
Error Number: 0x80004005
Description:
Failed to generate OLAP Cube for the
following Request :
<personalized info>

and another one:

Component: MSP Resource Availablity Refresh and OLAP Cube Creation Component
(ProjOLAP)
File: PROJOLAPProcess
Line: 14
Description:
Error #: 14 Desc. :Cube didn't build
because of security check failure

I can't tell you where the security is failing, only that it is. Diagnosing
these issues is a process of elimination that can take hours or days
depending on your server knowledge level and familiarity with the system.
