OLAP Cube Builds Manually But Not On Schedule

B

Brandon@KM

I can build our OLAP Cube manually with no problems...

However, when I try to set the OLAP Cube to build every day at a certain
time, it will not build. There's no error given, it just will not work...

Is there something going on behind the scenes that I'm missing???

Is there an underlying permissions/rights issue that I'm not seeing???

Any help would be appreciated...

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Hi Brandon,

First of all be sure the start date and time you enter for the cube
build in the future (on the server). If the start date/time you
enter has already passed, it will not start, ever...

I did actually see this symptom once on one of my client's servers.
After a great deal of investigation we concluded that a queue
was stuck somewhere. The simple solution was to reboot
the server after hours.

Try rebooting your project server.

Bob,
What if the cube has been built once and now the start date is already
passed (e.g. 12/10/2005)? Do we have to change the start date every
time?

Hello Babar,

Normally once the cube builds automatically once, it will keep going.

If you can build the cube using the Update Now button, it should build
automatically IF the start date and time you specify is in the future
(with respect to the system clock on the project server). I generally
select a time at least 30 minutes into the future.

Just to be clear, I have only seen the stuck queue problem once across
a span of more than twenty servers and what has to be several thousand
hours of collective operation.

Try the reboot and let me know what happens.

Babar and Bob,

Thanks for the responses / information!!! We completed our server reboot
last night during our regularly scheduled maintenance window and I have set
the OLAP Cube to rebuild starting on Monday, Feb. 6th... I already did what
you suggested on our test environment and it worked no problem, so I don't
anticipate any trouble with our production environment.

THANKS AGAIN and Have a GREAT Weekend!!!
