OLAP Cube Creation Error

Can anyone help solve this? The thread seems to have lost momentum since it
ran off the front page (is this typical?). Ian and I cannot make progress
with the system till we resolve this.

Many thanks

Hi,

I now have everything SQL 2000 SP4'd but still have issues. When I try to
update the code now I don't appear to be hitting the project server database,
I also get nothing in either server's set of event logs.

Initially I do see some traffic on the AS port of 2725 on the firewall going
from the Project Server to the SQL server but nothing returns. If I run a
trace on the SQL ProjectServer database I see no activity.

What I have noticed is that there is an xml file created in the C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office Project Server 2003\BIN\VIEWDROP folders which appears
to contain valid SQL connection srtings. It seems odd that this file contains
SQL connection strings rather than using the DSN which was created on the
project server, the contents of this file are as follows;

If you open up all ports between Project Server and the AS server, does it
work ?

can you browse the user object in the DMZ Domain used for OLAP by project
server in AD Users and Computers from the AS Server?

I have moved my Project Server so that it is now on the same LAN as te SQL
server, although it is still in it'w own domain as I still want to move it
back to the DMZ once the OLAP issue is fixed.

The problem still exists in exactly the same way, when I click to update the
cube I get no errors on the Project Server, I get no errors on the SQL
server. The cube is not created, when I run a trace on the Project Server SQL
database I see no attempts even to hit the database.

When I am on the project server I am able to browse the AD for where the SQL
server resides and see the account wihch runs the project services and is
used within the DSN

Iny further ideas please.

Thanks.
Ian

If you open up all ports between Project Server and the AS server, does it
work ?

can you browse the user object in the DMZ Domain used for OLAP by project
server in AD Users and Computers from the AS Server?

SQL connection strings rather than using the DSN which was created on the
project server, the contents of this file are as follows;

Yes there are other ports which need to be opened for AS. I can't recall
what they are from memory, but you should be able to see from your firewall.

Yep, I have installed DSO, plus SP3a on both servers. I've downloaded SP4 and
will install it out of hours tonight. So will let you know how much
differenbce that makes in the morning.

I will have to use WSS 3.0, I'm hoping to use this as an excuse to get the
money for Project Server 2007..

I can resolve the FQDN of the AS Server throught DNS and can telnet to it on
port 1433, are there any other ports I should open for AS Server ?

Thanks,
Ian

:

Have you installed DSO components on the Project Server (with the relevant
SQL Service Packs) ?

I'd also strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest Service Pack of
SQL 2000.

Are you planning to use WSS 3.0 for project workspaces? If so, be aware that
it's not compatible with Project Server 2003.

Can the application server resolve the FQDN of the AS server through DNS?

Hi, I am having real problems building OLAP Cubes in a rather convoluted
environment.

We have our Project Server and SQL/Analysis Server seperated by a firewall
and on seperate domains. Project Server 2003 is in a DMZ on the same machine
as WSS 3.0 which is also the only DC for the Domain in the DMZ

SQL/Analysis Server sits on the LAN and is a member of the Internal domain.
A two way trust exists between the two domains. One Service account is used
to run all WSS and Project Server services and Com+ apps, this account is on
the Internal LAN. I have added it to the OLAP Admins group on both the SQL
Server and the Project Server. I have run PSComPlus.exe to configure the
Analysis Services and Sharepoint Services Identities. This account also has
modify rights to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Project Server
2003\BIN\VIEWDROP folder located on the Project Server. I have also logged
onto the Project Server with this account and tested the PC11DSN dsn and it
successfully test connectivity to the Project server Database.

The SQL Server is runnig SQL Server 2000 with SP3a, the project Server has
also has SQL Server Analisys Services SP3a installed

I have confugured the firewall to ensure that there are no packets blocked
by the firewall in either direction when attempting to update the OLAP Cube.

When I try to use the 'Manage enterprise features' window to update the cube
I am using the FQDN of the SQL/Analysis Server. Yet when I click teh Update
