OLAP Cube Migration

Stu

Im currently doing a migration of Project Server 2003 to new hardware,
ive managed to move the db over quite easily by restoring it and
regenerating the MSProjectUser and MSProjectServerUser accounts.

However the current setup is making use of OLAP cube, and when I goto
configuration it still points to the existing server for OLAP.
Obviously this is pulled from the SQL db, however when I change it to
my new server I seem to get problems connecting. During installation I
used the same service account to make OLAP connections and have them in
the OLAP admin group.

Has anyone had a successful migration of the OLAP services? If so could
you let me know the best process.

Use Manage Enterprise feature to change the Analysis Server name to your new
OLAP server name and preferably use a new Cube name. This way, it will craete
a totally new OLAP Cube for you on the new server. You will have to rebuild
all the Portfolio Analysis Views because the old views were binded to the
previous OLAP cube.
Hope this helps.

Jason,

I got used your advice and renamed the cube to cube1 or something along
those lines, was still getting connection problems. Resolved them by
giving Modify and Full Control permissions to the OLAP Admins on
Analysis Services\Help80 and \Bin respectively....

Cube now creates successfully. Thing is all the views seem to have
recreated themselves into the new cube.....do you reckon I still need
to rebuild the views??

You should update your new cube with new data and see if the existing views
can pick up these updates. I suspect the existing views are still using the
old cube information. The best bet is to create the new views and that worked
for me.
