olap export to excel

Bob

We are running project server 2003 and have noticed that when creating an
olap view and exporting it to excel, the users CPU usage goes to 100% and it
may take three hours to load. The querys pull about seven levels. Needless to
say, everything else grinds to a halt on the users machine while waiting. I
plan on installing sp1 on the proj svr over the weekend. Will this help?

Tks,

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on how much data you're trying to pull. If you
go for too much data, you may simply crash your system or exceed the export
the limit. The culprit often is the time dimension. You shouldn't try to
pull too much time phased data at the day level.

Thanks Gary,

I also found that excel does a full export of data instead of filtering like
you would do in portfolio analyzer. This increases the data pulled
exponentially. I found a little information on limiting this data by
eliminating nulls etc. I will post more information as I find it.
