Old Excel 4 files

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

Have old excel 4 files that I would like to be able to convert to iwork numbers files but iwork numbers cannot read them because they from a 1990s excel 4 version. Any suggestions??

Open them in a current version of XL or NeoOffice and save them as an
XL97-2004 (.xls) or a XL 2007-2008 (.xlsx) file.

Do not have current version of XL & NeoOffice only opens them as NeoOffice Writer files instead of origional Excel 4 format.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Hi roybird -

NeoOffice does open the files, right? Once the file is open use the Save As
command & select the file type John recommended from the Format: list. I'm
not that familiar with NeoOffice but I would suspect that it can *read* the
old Excel format but can't *write* it.

The idea is to create a new copy of the files in a more current file format.
That way Neo or more current versions of Excel will be able to allow editing
of the new copies. The original Excel 4 files can then be deleted.
