Old Mac Word Files can't open (1988-1992)

I have some old documents from the late 80's early 90's
I'm trying to open and save in new formats. These were
done on old versions of Mac Word ( I believe 5.0 or 60 ).
I can not read these files. I need help retrieving these
and converting them to a new version.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'v already tried
most of the built in converters.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi

Single click on a document icon in finder then use Apple+I (or File >
GetInfo) and see what it says for Kind.

That should tell you what version of Word was used to create the file.
Knowing that we can suggest what to use to open the file.

The current version of Word will open Word 5 and 6 files, so they're not
that. Maybe ClarisWorks 5 or 6?

If they were Word 5 or 6, you just use File>Open in Word and they will open
straight up. Double-clicking may not work, but File>Open should.

Cheers
