old, non-existent e-mail addresses

I can't find a way to get rid of old addresses that pop up as a choice when I
type a name in the "to" box of the word e-mail form. they are NOT in my
address book.

Although this is a newsgroup for Word questions, I'm happy to provide an
answer.

When the suggested address appears, just press the delete key and it will be
removed from the list from then on.

Sorry, that doesn't work. It only eliminates it from THAT ONE e-mail I am
trying to compose.

They are held in the nickname cache. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287623 for instructions to clear it.

Sorry this didn't work either. There were no .NK2 files found. I tried

As Gordon said, this is a forum for questions about Word, and not the best
place for this question.

I had assumed you were using Outlook, but, checking back, I see you don't
say. I would suggest you look for a forum for questions specifically about
the e-mail client that you are using.

Thanks for your help. Yes, I am using Microsoft Outlook but formatting in
word. The instruction from Microsoft said to choose "local hard disk". I
tried for the fourth time and selected my "C drive" instead and that found
it. Thanks to everyone.

To be more accurate the instructions were select "local hard disk". the
choices actualy are "local hard drive" or "local disk". Both are in C drive,
but only the latter found it. Thanks for helping someone who is not a
computer expert.

"Local hard drive" and "local disk" *mean* C: drive.
