old pc crashed need to move office to new one

My old PC crashed and I cannot access the HD. It had Office 2003 OEM on the
old pc when I purchased it, but then I bought retail Office Professional CDs
and upgraded it. I have bought a new laptop and would like to put Office on
it. Can I use the Office 2003 Professional Upgrade CDs with their product
key, or do I need to buy a totally new retail version of Office?

You cannot use the Office OEM as proof for a Retail Upgrade version of Office. You
need to purchase a qualifying product. Look to EBay or similar for one. Works will
do

If you have the Office 2003 OEM disc, you can use that disc to upgrade to
Office 2007. You do not need to install Officed 2003 OEM, just insert the
disc in your drive when asked for a qualifying product and browse to the
drive letter. If you are not asked for a qualifying product, you have
another pre-installed application that is a qualifying product for Office
2007 upgrade.

Since the above conflicts with the other advice you received, suggest you
try using the Office 2003 OEM disc. Trying will taken only a few minutes and
will not do any harm. If you do not have the Office 2003 OEM disc, suggest
you look for one of the lower cost Works versions that are also qualifying
products for Office 2007 upgrade.

If your new computer came with a Trial version of Office, uninstall the
Trial version before you do anything else with Office 2007.
