Old problem with password protected pst files

This is an old problem ...

I have my default *.pst file which is password protected and set as default
in Outlook.

I open outlook, type my password and everything works find and I close it.
Now comes the problem ... If i open it again, it won't ask for a password
anymore. Someone told me once it could be due to an anti-virus, so I
automaticly thought it was Norton Internet Security, but now I am using
kaspersky and the problem continues. I have also noticed that there's a
process that keeps running (outlook32.exe) even when I close outlook. If I
kill this process and reopen outlook, it will promt me again for the
password ;)

My questions are ...
a) Why outlook doesn't kill this process automaticly?
b) Is there a way to do make outlook kill this process?
c) Is there anything in kaspersky preventing Outlook to do it?

Thanks in advance.

In the Dialog Box where you set the Password did you remember to uncheck the box "Save this password to your password list". If you leave the box checked the password will be cached which means that you only have to enter the password the first time you use Outlook after a system restart.

Err, outlook32.exe is a trojan: http://www.what-is-exe.com/filenames/outlook32-exe.html

Might want to check your AV definitions and do a full system scan.

Hmmmmm .... interesting!

Yes, I am sure I remembered to leave this box unchecked, but after reading
your post I tried to do something that seems to have solved the problem. I
just reset the password. Opened the box to change password and "changed" it
to the same password leaving the box unchecked then hit Ok.

Well, since this is an oldddd *.pst file, coming from older Outlook
versions, it probably had a bug in it.

Thank you very much for your post. Apparently I just solved the problem I
have been dealing with in the past few years ;)

Ops, my bad, sorry.
The process I see is Outlook.exe *32

Ok, that is indeed a bit different. So, here's different answers:

a) Outlook doesn't stop outlook.exe when something external to the software
(an add-in, a desktop application like search) keeps the software running.

b) Outlook tried. It failed. Find the software that keeps outlook from
running and get rid of it (or look for fixes in their software) and Outlook
should exit out just fine.

c) Possibly. Have you tried removing it, or disabling any and all Outlook
plugins that it creates to see what happens?

Also, try this. Reboot the sytem, start outlook from start-run outlook /safe.
Let it run, then exit out and see if the .exe stays running. If it does,
then it isn't an add-in, it's likely some desktop app. If it doesn't, then
it's an add-in and you need to find whichone it is.
