Old word document (1997) with password. How to open?

MK

I have an old word document with password (which i still know). However, i'm
not able opening it in word 2003.
Is there a way, other than installing word 1997 for example, opening it
anyway?

Thanks in advance.

Word 2003 and Word 97 use exactly the same format, so it's not the document
format that is your problem. Word 2003 will open everything back to Word 2
format without a pause.

Try this:

1) Create a new blank document
2) Use Insert>File... To "insert" the old document into the new one.

The old Word 97 format had a weak password that could be outwitted by this
mechanism. The content of the file should be inserted into your new
document without even prompting for the password.

Cheers

Hi John,

Thanks. However, unfortunately it says: "not enough memory". Maybe my .doc
is corrupt. But i don't know how to check that.

Cheers,

Martijn

You just did, and it is... Sorry :)

Try File>Open and set "Type" to "Recover text from any file". That might
get the text out for you, without the formatting...

Don't forget to put "Type" back to "Word Document" when you have finished,
or every document will open without formatting...
