Oldie but goodie??

Have an old system(I mean old, win98se) I use as a backup and to try
different programs, etc. IOW- if it gets messsed up, who cares.

Had to install a new HD and here's the problem.
I've had Office 2k loaded on it for years.
Problem is my copy is an upgrade and it will not install unless another
office program is on the system.
Someone said I need to find an old full copy of OL, Word, etc., etc. and
then it would install.

suggestions and thanks,

Someone told you correctly if you do have an upgrade version of Office 2K.
Search your old CDs, Floppies, etc. to find a qualifying Microsoft program
or in the case of O2K there were competitive upgrades IIRC. Wordperfect
would have been one of the programs that would qualify. Other option is to
go onto eBay and find a cheap older copy of Office 4.3, 95 or 97 or even an
individual program of the suite as an upgrade qualifier.. You really only
need the CD or disk for the upgrade.

While you don't (probably) have to install the older version of the
software, you will need it when the installation program for O2K asks for a
qualifying product.

Thanks for the reply.
Only thing I can find is an old copy of OL98 but it's an upgrade cd and it
won't install either.... Go figure.
Will ask around or look on e-bay..

Hi L.S.,

This article lists the products for which either a CD or diskette would be recognized as the upgrade qualifier for Office 2000
during installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/210437/en-us?FR=1 .
The 'list' wasn't as long as the one for Office 97 upgrades, which was very wide in scope for allowed qualifying products.

Thanks for the info.
I'm going to ask around and see if anyone has an old copy of one of the
programs mentioned.

FYI- found an old copy of FP98(full version). Loaded first and now O2k is
installing just fine.

Thanks, Now I can get back to 'playing' with stuff. :)
