OLE Errors (11.5608.5606 on Win2k SP4)

Hi,

A user's computer here has some very strange messages that come up:

EXCEL:
Cannot use object linking and embedding.

WORD:
This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create
links from other documents to this document.

OUTLOOK, on starting email:
Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editor. However, Word is
unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The
Outlook e-mail editor will be used instead.

ACCESS:
A problem occurred while Microsoft Office Access was communicating with
the OLE server or ActiveX Control.

Close the OLE server and restart it outside of Microsoft Office Access.
Then try the original operation again in Microsoft Office Access.

We reinstall everything and then it seems fine for a couple of weeks,
and then everything comes back again. When she's getting these errors,
she then loses all OLE functionality - so no copy/paste, etc!

This issue also existed when she was on Office XP. We're about to try
Office 97 on her computer, to see if that helps, but we suspect that she
may be doing something strange.

Also, her "Control Panel" folder opens up, with the control panel items
in the sidebar on the left, and the main panel blank! I'd not noticed
this one until this most recent reinstall...

Any information appreciated, either here or off-list at my email
address, remove the NOSPAM.

OK, so I've updated IE from 5 to 6, and this seems to have fixed Control
Panel - and I'm also no longer getting these strange errors, at least
when logged on as Administrator - whereas I was earlier today...
however, this is also the first time I've had these errors as
Administrator?!

I am having very similar problems. I cannot use word as my email editor in
outlook, and cannot drag jpeg photos into my access data base. I keep getting
messages that my OLE server is not registered, and I have uninstalled and
reinstalled office but I still have exactly the same problem. It is as if my
office products have stopped talking to one another. I hope someone will help
us with our problems. Microsoft are being destinctly unhelpful!

There are 40-odd google groups hits for: "while Microsoft Office
Access was communicating" and many more on the web. Have you checked
out any of those? Perhaps if one of those explains what is happening
with Access, it would clarify what is happening generally.

The computer has started working completely normally again - knock on
wood.

I still think it may have been something to do with me updating IE to
6.0...
