OLK30 sub-directory

Does anyone know why this sub-directory is not viewable and why it is not
cleaned out by way of the Outlook or disk cleanup functions. This directory
is located at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files. The only way I have found to access it is through DOS
commands. This directory appears to be where Outlook temporarily opens
attachments. I ran into a problem where this directory filled up and Outlook
would no longer allow me to open, or even save, an attachment.

Because that's how Windows Explorer is designed to work. It will not show
you the Temporary Internet Files structure. You can see it from a commmand
prompt window, however, and you can see it is you explicitly enter

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK30

in the Address Bar and click Go. Explorer will show you the contents of
that folder then.

While it's supposed to happen, some versions of Outlook don't clean this
folder out very well. Outlook 2003 is fairly good about it, though.

There is aan application called OutlookTools that can clean it. Find it

That web page will show you the registry key that controls where the Outlook
Secure Temp Folder resides. By changing that registry key, you can move the
folder to a handier place like
%UserProfile%\My Documents\OutlookTemp, or some such so that Windows
Explorer will open it readily.
