On a LAN, can receive messages but cannot send them

Local LAN with 9 computers on a peer to peer network using a stand alone
computer running Windows 2000 as a server. Have differing operating systems
from Win 98 to Win XP. All has worked well to date. New computer running
Win XP Pro and Office 2003 replaced an old Win 98 computer. New addition
sees all other users and the administrator drive on the "Server" and can
receive e-mail but cannot send. The following message appears each time an
attempt is made to send e-mail " The operation failed. An object could not
be found ". Grateful for any help.
