Posted months ago about a problem where tmp files from a
client using Word would not auto-delete when doc was saved
and closed. Never had a resolution. Last week we
replaced their old systems and moved them
from Office 97 to Office 2003. We ONLY copied docs and
other data, NOT normal.doc or any other control files. We
thought this would certainly get rid of her problem. This
is in a very busy law firm. Today I go there and there
are over 2000 tmp files in C:\temp and except for a few,
they all were left by Word! We always change the User and
System environment variables to point to C:\temp and
change the default location for auto save files to C:\temp
in Word. I have even put the User and System environment
variables back to default locations and left Word at our
C:\temp for auto save. Word immediately starts dumping
many tmp's into C:\temp even if everything is carefully
saved and closed. Systems are all on APC UPS's and user
is very competent, although she is a little worried that I
keep accusing her of causing this . This configuration
is peer-to-peer and except for this problem is a very
clean and trouble-free site. We have many installations
of MS Office in many versions and configurations and have
never seen this anywhere else. Have tried many times to
reproduce it at our office. This law firm has 20+
identical new HP/Compaq workstations to replace their old
clones and this one user is the only one that has or has
ever had this problem. Can you tell that this is
