On-Going Task

Hi. I am using Project 2007 Standard

I am trying to scheudle a task that is ongoing for the entire length of the
project. Basically I have a task that will take 2 hours a week over the
course of the entire project. This isn't a recurring task. It is just doing
2 hours worth of work over the week as time allows. How can i set this up in
the project? I want the length of the task to automatically extend if the
end of the project is extened by any other task pushing out the end date of
the project. Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Matt D.,

What you appear to need is a hammock task which will span the entire
duration of the project. See FAQ 19 at:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Once you have created the hammock task, you'll want to assign your
resource(s) at a very low assignment unit to reflect the 2 hours per
week. Assuming a 40 hour work week definition, 5% assignment unit
would equal 2 hours of work spread over a 1 week duration.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

That appears to be what I want except how do I link to the start and end date
of the entire project? I don't know what task will drive the end date so I
can't really link to task directly.

Create 2 milestones. Call the first one Project Start and link it FS to the
beginning tasks in the project. Call the second milestone Project Finish
and link it FS to every task that has no successor, ie that have to be
completed to define the end of the project. Link the 2 milestones to the
Hammock as detailed in the FAQ.

Seems pretty easy to me. What would you prefer? A custom wizard? I
can't think of a better way as the computer can't read my mind.
