On-screen images in Word 2002 appear "dimmed"

I'm trying to paste graphics into Word 2002 headers and footers. They print just fine, but for on-screen viewing they're dimmed about 50%, like text in a header/footer. How do I make the images appear in the correct color when viewing on-screen?

Thanks,

Dave

You can't. Both text and graphics in the header/footer are dimmed except
when the header/footer pane is active.
