Running MSWord 2000 on year-old, desktop-replacement
notebook PC, along with Win and Office 2000.
Continually receive these MSWord error messages in
sequence on calling up spell/grammar check within open doc:
"MSWord can't check the garmmar [spelling] in this
document. MSWorkd cannot install the necessary files due
to Windows installer error 1605. This action is only valid
for products that are currently installed."
Then, each of these error message are followed in turn by:
"Word cannot find the grammer file msgr2EN.dll or
C:\Progfram Files\Common files\Microsoft
shared\proof\MSGREN32.DLL [spelling file MSSpell3.dll or
mssp32.dll] for English (U.S.).
Finally, MSWord advises:
"The spelling and grammar check is complete."
Except, that no such check is made.
Have installed all applicable upgrades and services packs
for both Win and Office 2000. Have also invoked Win
2000 "repair" from within Win 2000 reinstall, BUT have NOT
reinstalled Win 2000 from scratch.
Have been UNABLE to locate any reference to "Windows
installer error 1605" in the MS Knowledge Base.
Any suggestions? BTW, do you think this problem can be
solved by installing Office 2003 Upgrade?
