Recent problems many of us are having with Open and Save-As with Documents
and Folders in the "My Documents" Folder are consequences of the April 11,
2006 Microsoft Security Updtae MS06-015, automatically downloaded and
installed in all PC's so set for automatic secusrity improvements.
Details on these "Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after
you install security update MS06-015" can be found in the following Webpages:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918165 (courtesy Suzanne S. Barnhill), and
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx .
Expand the FAQ Section, under General Information, in the latter for a
discussion of ackowledged issues with this Security Update and Microsoft's
plans to release a revised Update Tuesday, April 25, to correct the problems.
Editing your Registry to correct the problem is not advised. Copying and
Pasting Files to / from a Working Documents Folder on your C:/ drive and
renaming them there is a safer temporary work-around. From there you can
double-click the re-named document Icon to Launch Word.
Hope this helps.
