since in another post i responded to the fact i turned off note containers
and they're still apparent I decided it was time to fix the problem. I have
in the settings turned off note containers. but they still show op.
What else needs to be done. to have restarted many times since I have
turned them oft.

I actually had to uninstall the (web) installation I had, and reinstall
completly new from the CD i bought. But this still didn't solve the problem.
It looked like it did at first, but after I started to write, well the note
container came back.
The web install just an FYI, had a problem, every time I tried to repair, or
even reinstall it kept looking for SKU1A1.cab which was on the CD, but it
couldent find it. Stupid installer.. probably kept looking in temp or
somthing.

Well, Let me restate that.
Only when i write in the note I get a container, but when I look at it I see
nothing.
But even this isn't wanted, I want no containers...

Wish I knew what to tell you -- works perfectly for me on my Averatec
Tablet with OneNote SP1.

What kind of Tablet are you using, what build of the OS? I assume you
already have OneNote SP1 installed.

Can you post a URL to a screenshot which shows your problem and the settings
in the Note Container dialogue box?

It sometimes helps if we can see what you see.

Hi James,

Am I correct in assuming that you are on SP1? If not, as a first step
I would suggest that you update to SP1.

The Check for Updates option on the Help menu should allow you to
check for updates.

Carrying out a repair is straightforward. Simply select Repair from
the Help menu.

Sorry, I can see from other posts that you are running SP1.

Not sure what to suggest. Toggling the "Show note containers" checkbox works
fine for me.

When I clear the check mark, "Show note containers," they disappear in
Type/Selection Tool mode, but NOT in Pen mode. So I'm seeing the problem in
Pen mode... or is it a problem? Are the note containers supposed to be
displayed in Pen mode, anyway??

Rick Copeland

James,

And... what are you settings under the View menu?

(Show Ink Groups especially. Handwriting Recognition Guide also if you have
this option visible)

James, what you are seeing is not the Note Container. It is simply an
indicator showing you the current paragraph _within_ the note container.
It is there to help you 'keep between the lines' as you write and so you
will know where the end of the line is.

From reading your posts it appears that you want OneNote to always look
like a plain white piece of paper with no indication of how OneNote is
grouping what you write. You should know, whether you can see the Note
Containers or not, they are still there. And if you cannot see them then
you will run into so many more problems you will be right back in here
complaining about them as well.

If you want a program that allows you to simply write anywhere on the
page then you should use Journal. I know, it does not have the tabbed
interface that OneNote has and many people have already begged for
Microsoft to combine the two. But there has been no indication that it
will ever happen.

P.S. What you are seeing in the screen capture you posted on your web
site is nothing more than the selected text indicators. All programs are
going to display the text as highlighted when it is selected. In this
particular shot you have selected the entire note container and therefore
all of the text in the container is highlighted. There is no way to
change this behaviour.
