One Note Disk Full

I converted my OneNote 2003 notebooks to OneNote 2007. Now my hard disk is
nearly full. There are two OneNote files in Microsoft/AppData files:
One is named 12.0 the other is Backup. 12 is 27 GB and Backup is 12 GB.
The OneNote MyNotebook file is only 8GB.

Were the files 12 and Backup created solely for the 2003 to 2007 conversion?
Can I delete them? Are there specials rules on how I should delete them?

I ran MS Diskclean up but it did not identify these files as redundant.
