Definitively my favorite... I've used it for quite a long time and I
love it.

In my previous post I listed four commerical products. But a lot of
people like this one, which is really a bargain -- you can download
and use it for free:

Version 2.6 should be released in October according to the web page
and blog of Dan Schimpf.

It's a nice application too, but I'm not sure I would have placed it in
the OneNote-like category though.

Yes, it has only a tangential connection to some other applications --
you should also consider the continual development, during which new
features are added.

But, this one could be a gem -- version 1.0 is slated to be released
on October 1st, 2004. Currently a beta version can be downloaded for
free:

For many persons in TAO outlining and note-keeping features are
implemented in a way, which seems to be even better than in the first
four applications I suggested. It is also a Cocoa-application,
currently avalable only for Mac OS X.

Setup a Google alert for:
"evernote Mac"
"Onenote Mac"

and watch what happens.

Your best bet is to purchase Office 2004 which has a notebook feature
that is Word-compatible.

The main thing it is missing is the autosave feature from Onenote
--Onenote requires no saving. I also love the Freeform nature of
Onenote --that can be duplicated with Pages, unfortunately, it is much
more complex. (Pages doesn't do the Notebook/autosave functionality.)

I love Onenote, and I thank the Onenote team for it. Unfortunately,
dw.exe errors plagued me using Internet Explorer and Word. Microsoft TS
never called me back, they almost had it resolved. But I just got fed
up.

It was probably a corrupt file.

I hope Microsoft will come out with Onenote for the Mac.

Here are some tips to find replacements for Onenote. You will likely
not get all of the functionality in one app.

http://guide.apple.com/uscategories/productivity.lasso

Check the "Document Management, Archive, and Retrevial" category. There
you will find apps like Curio, which may be suitable.

Also check the "Ideas Processing" category. Onenote primarily fits into
this category, although many like me use it as a way of managing scraps
of information that would ordinarily be put into documents.

No OneNote for Mac as of yet and I'm not aware of immediate plans for one,
but I can check with the dev team.

Have you tried posting about it in the ms.public.onenote newsgroup?
