One Note saves multiple copies of section files with cascading fil

Some time, probably after ON has been open/inactive for some time, when I go
back to a section, I find several new sections with the same name but
cascaded with date in paraentheses automatically appear in my notebook. In
fact, clicking on the section creates yet another cascaded file. Looking
into explorer, I find multiple filenames. See the example below - This is
what I see as new section tags as well as new files created in the folder:

Starting from the main file "filename.one" to

filename.one (On 12-8-2007).one

filename.one (On 12-8-2007).one (On 12-8-2007).one

Are you using any folder synchronization technologies, like Windows
Offline Files, Groove, or Foldershare? If so, editing the same file on
multiple computers can cause similar symptoms.
Also, you don't by any chance happen to have the backup folder open as a
notebook?

If you're using anything like FolderShare for OneNote notebooks, you should
exclude your OneNote notebooks asap! Nobody believes me when I tell them
that FolderShare and other sync software is no good for this type of data
until they see a mess like you've described.

Step by step instructions for how to set up OneNote synchronization. Then
you can exclude it from the other synchronization program that you're using
and your notebooks will stay neat and clean and you'll probably never see
another conflict again.
