One Note should accept the same symbol shortcuts as Word.

Symbols just don't work smoothly in One Note. I'm in law school & use
ceratain symbols often such as the double SS used for "section", esp. when
taking notes in class. It's too cubersome to keep going to "insert".

Almost everyone in my 160 person law class uses OneNote and we ALL hate how
hard it is to use everyday symbols like Section, Pi, and Delta.

Thanks!

The best workaround is to use Autocorrect to replace unique combinations
of letters with the desired symbols.

I use autocorrection to change shorthand characters to symbols. For
example, one I use frequently is par which autocorrect changes to the
reversed P symbol for paragraph. Also I use the initials for my employer
and autocorrection changes to the full name.

Amen! I've been using that for a while now, after first reading the
suggestion here in the newsgroup, and it's been a great help. I don't
remember who it was that made the suggestion the first time I read it,
but it was a top-10-most-valuable tip, IMHO.

The caution I had to take into account is to make sure that the words I
set up for auto-correction aren't something that might get used normally
and that I wouldn't want to have auto-corrected. For example, "par"
might be okay for your situation, but if golf terminology were to come
into play, it might pose a problem. In this particular case, I would
have used "pp" or something similar, since that's what that symbol looks
like (to me).

I don't

It originated with Microsoft :)

They have lots of OneNote tips here:

The Autocorrect suggestion is the 4th bullet point under "Tips for taking
notes".

So it is. ;-)

I meant the person who wrote the first posting here on the newsgroup
that I read which mentioned it, but thanks.
