One Note should let me insert SOUND FILES (not just pictures) such as MP3 --
this would be quite good for many types of students such as myself --- i am a
medical student and for my cardiology and pulmonology classes i need to
distinguish between different heart sounds and lung sounds (e.g. normal
heart vs heart murmurs vs pericardial friction rub, etc etc, etc) . it would
be great if i could type "Mitral Valve Stenosis" and then have a sound link
right next to the term.

This would also be great for music students trying to learn scales and for
ear training as well as for many other applications.

You can add the audio to your notes. Set up the recording features to take
the sound from the computer instead of the microphone, then play the piece.
Not only do you get the sound icon on your notes page, you get the ability
to take notes while the sound plays and have the notes linked to the sound.
(or the notes linked to the specific notes if you are playing music :) )

There's a whole section on the Audio and Video recording capabilities of
OneNote in Life on OneNote... You might want to check it out.
