One of my email accounts disappears and reappears at will

I have two accounts set up on my Entourage 2008 in Office 2008 for Mac.
One is for my work email (comcast) and one is for my home email (also comcast).
Some days, my work account will not appear when I open Entourage. Then,
mysteriously, other days it will be there.
On days when it is not there, ALL of my emails and work (address book adds, etc.) from the last day when it WAS there, are gone, both in my home account and work account. My home account remains, but the work from that day is gone and the whole of my work account is gone, even from the accounts list in preferences. Very frustrating!

This is surely a strange problem, I've not heard of before. I have eight
or nine different accounts--Comcast, Qwest, Mac.com, etc.--and I've
never had an account disappear as you describe.

My first suspicion would be some kind of database corruption. Try
launching Entourage with Option key held down, and run the "verify"
option of the Database Utility when it starts up. If it reports
problems, then run the repair option. If no problems are reported, we'll
have to look again.

I had the exact same thing happen to me today. My entire account
disappeared. I went to account settings and had to select new and put the
information in again. All my emails were gone. Did you figure out the
problem.

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)
What version of Entourage including the update.
What version of the OS are you using?
