One project plan with mutiple project managers

Hi,

We have a big project plan that many PM's will use. Every PM will be
resposible for his own tasks. What is the best way to give the PM's access to
the plan so that they can rebublish their own task and get the updates.
Should I create a separate group and a category for those PM's so that they
will have access to that specific plan or is there a better solution for this.

Thanks!

Dear Teme

Expert Suggest that bigger project plans must be Converted to multiple
project plans so that it can be managed by multiple project managers.
The only other way is to select the task and publish. On the publish
fields you will see a option "make me manager of these tasks". I have
seen lots of threads here so you can read them to find the right
answer.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for you reply. My first idea was also to have separate project plans
for PMs and then a master plan for viewing them together. The problem in this
is that we need to publish the master plan as well and that would create
double booking for the resources. This means that we need to have one big
project plan with all the resources. My question was, what is the best way to
do this?

I found out that one possibility is to use one project server authentication
based user account for all the project managers. They would use this account
every time they would modify the project plan. For us this is not the correct
way because if there was any trouble with the project plan we wouldn't be
able to follow who had made the modifications before. Also this is not the
safest way of handling the project server.

The second possibility was to create a custom group and a custom category
for these PMs. By modifying the category information I could give the PMs
access to the project plan and rights to publish the project plan. Then they
could use the option "make me manager of these tasks" and receive the updates.

Is there any third option?

Thanks!

I would opt for your second solution, plus the solution that Jerry
referenced in his last message (in which he quoted me). Hope this helps.
