One site, 2 computers

I spend time at two locations and maintain a website using two computers and
FP 2000. I synchronize the computers by making a complete backup when I
move from one location to the other and then only load the changed files.
In one location I have a fast computer and fast internet connection. The
other location, a summer home, I have a older computer and a dialup
connection.

This has worked well until now. In the past few weeks I've been at the
location with the fast computer/internet connection and made quite a few
changes to the website. Now that I'm back at the summer home and updated
the slower computer, I'm not able to upload files. When I publish,
FrontPage tries to update a older file that does not need to be updated.
I've checked and the date/time for the file is the same on both the computer
and website. The update never is completed and times out.

Question: What is the best way to synchronize the computers?

It may be best to open the site from your current location and publish down to the PC before making
changes, then make your changes and re-publish or you can work directly on the live site and then do
a publish to the local computer as a back up.

Well, my current location is where I have a 24 k dialup and the website is
about 80 megs or so so that would be a big problem to publish back. I don't
understand why I'm having this trouble now. During the summer, I moved
between locations a couple of times and didn't have many problems as long as
I only updated files that had been changed. I don't understand why it's now
trying to upload a file that hasn't been changed in quite a while and is the
same on both computers and the website.

This isn't the end of the world as I will close up the summer place this
Saturday and bring the slow computer home. In the meantime I can manually
change a few files using an upload utilty provided by the website service
provider.

try selecting only the files you know you've changed, the right click on one of
the selected files and select "publish selected pages".

This is the situation for which I use gotomypc.com, which I sign up for
when I go on vacation (usually I sign up for a period of a month which
costs about $20).

It allows me to have remote access to my fast desktop from a slower
connection (or a fast wireless hotspot) when I am away from home. That
way all the updates are done over the fast home connection.
