I acutally have two subforms both set as 'continuous' and what I was trying
to do is be able to show a list of all items in the first sub-form and then,
when a record is selected in that form, show just the unique field matching
records in the second sub-form. In the Relationship Manager I selected
"Include ALL records from [#1 subform] and only those records from [#2
subform] where the joined fields are equal." I've also tried setting the
first sub-form as 'single' but that made no difference.

Bob,
Just a shot in the dark... any chance your "subform" Default View is set
to Single Form?
When the subform has the focus, and you hit PageDown... does another
associated record show?
The main form should use the One table as it's record source, and the
subform the Many table, linked through a unique key value that asociates
(relates) the One to the Many.
