One Word 2003 File hangs computer after being open several minutes

Hi,

I have Word 2003 running with all updates on an XP Professional
laptop. There is one 3 MB file with bitmaps and embedded Excel objects
(normal for me) that will hang the laptop after being open for several
minutes, even if I am working in another file.

I have repaired the Office installation and turned off auto save but
this still happens. Any ideas? I have tried copying all of my work
into another file (except for the last paragraph marker) but I would
have hours of reformatting as the pasted text changes some of the
styles. If I had more time, I would try other experiments but I had to
get the report out and it will serve as the basis of future updates so
I would like to find some way to fix this.
