I had Onenote 03 on my computer for about a year; My HD crashed requireing
me to start from scratch; everything has installed fine except for One Note.

I re-installed in a variety of ways from minimal to complete from my
original disk and product key; but everytime it loads up it crashes, and
sends a mega error report to microsft, with no feed back link. I borrowed a
friend's disk and tried it with my product key and her's, still with the same
result. I tried to down load the trial and trial product key and the same
result.

This is the error result:
AppName: onenote.exe AppVer: 11.0.6554.0 ModName: gdiplus.dll
ModVer: 6.0.3275.0 Offset: 00079348

Here is a slightly dfferent result:
AppName: onenote.exe AppVer: 11.0.6554.0 AppStamp:4265828f
ModName: gdiplus.dll ModVer: 6.0.3275.0 ModStamp:42cad9ef
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00079348

Any ideas? I have the original disk and product key, but that doesn't seem
to be the problem, as it seems with any disk/product key it does not work.
Also for Microsoft help I need a product identification key (which apparently
is not the same as the product key), and I can only get that by starting one
note succesfully, which I cannot do. I've gone through the One Note FAQs and
no help.

The school year has started, so any help or solution anyone knows of would
be very helpful.

THank you in advance,

Rajeev!

Thanks for responding Ben;

I am running XP pro, version 2002, w/ SP2, with all the security updates,
and all the recomended updates for windows/office. In fact, thinking about
it, the only difference between my current set up and my set up from 3 months
ago (when my HD crashed) would be the security updates.

I tried to trick it into opening by opening an old notebook... it didn't
work of course, but now when I see it try to load, I see it has opened the
file, and there appears to be a white blank splash screen that appears for a
few seconds before it collapses. Don't know if thathelps, but I thought I
would try to provide the visual data, since the data in the eror report .crv
file is way beyond my ken.

I've reproduced the error with the same results a few times:
AppName: onenote.exe AppVer: 11.0.6554.0 AppStamp:4265828f
ModName: gdiplus.dll ModVer: 6.0.3275.0 ModStamp:42cad9ef
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00079348

I checked my Windows folder and didn't see a gdiplus.dll file in the main
directory, should there be one there?

Can you send us the bucket # for the crash, it should be in the same place as
the other info you collected.

Bucket#?

When One Note crashes I get a dialogue box that says: "Microsoft Office
OneNote has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."

If I click on the "What data does this data report contain?" I get
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Error Signature
AppName: onenote.exe AppVer: 11.0.6554.0 AppStamp:4265828f
ModName: gdiplus.dll ModVer: 6.0.3275.0 ModStamp:42cad9ef
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00079348

Reporting details: [insert microsoft disclaimers]"
-------------------------------------------------------------------

If I click on "View the contents of error report" I get an Error Report
Contents, which is unclickable and thus I cannot reproduce it by copy/paste.

the Exception information is listed as:
Code: 0xc0000005
Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x0000000000000000
Adress: 0x0000000039879348

Then it lists the Modules and then Threads running (I assume). Does this
help?; how else could I identify a bucket# for you?

Thak you for your help Alex.

Open Event Viewer: Right-click on My Computer, select Manage. Expand
Event Viewer and select Application.
Find the error event (red icon) from Microsoft Office 12 that should be
there with the time stamp when the error happened. Right above (time
wise after), there is an Information event from Microsoft Office 12. In
that event, you'll see the word bucket followed by a number. That's the
number Alex is looking for.

I also am unable to install ON2007.

I had it installed a couple of months ago and removed it because of the
indexing problem.

I have ON2003 installed and have been successfully using it for a couple
of years. Still works fine.

The crash data report I get when I try to install ON2007 is:

Event Type: office12setup P1:{10120000-Of00-0000-0000-000000Of1ce}
P2: 12.0.4017.1005 P3: doing ui P4:0x80070002
P5: onenote.ww_onenoteww.xml P6: x P7: x

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sorry, I thought you had gotten this info from another place. Do this:

1. click on start button
2. right click my computer, choose manage
3. expand Event Viewer, and click on Application
4. Look for an "Error" that happened about the same time you crashed
5. Then find the "Information" that is right after that "Error", and double
click it.
6. Look for the bucket number in the Description

Thanks for the clarification,

I reporuced the error, and followed your instructions. Following your
instructions: I found my error at the correct time stamp, and the bucket#!:

Bucket 287002384, bucket table 1, faulting application onenote.exe, version
11.0.6554.0, stamp 4265828f, faulting module gdiplus.dll, version 6.0.3275.0,
stamp 42cad9ef, debug? 0, fault address 0x00079348.

Thank you for your very clear instructions, I hope this can help you figure
out what is going on here.

Anyone? Any ideas? =(

Have the bucket numbers revealed anything?

If this forum can't help me will the fee-based micrsoft service be able to?
I can't imagine they are specialized in OneNote. Do they have access tot he
error reports?

I'm still here.

And... I have made some progress. And narrowed the problem down further.

In a fit of frustration, I deleted every instance of the gdiplus.dll on my
computer, depite system warnings not to.

And... I made some progress, One Note actually loaded, and placed itself in
the system tray; further than I have gotten previously.

However, if I try to open a saved section, or open a new section; I get the
same error I have always been getting:

AppName: onenote.exe AppVer: 11.0.6554.0 AppStamp:4265828f
ModName: gdiplus.dll ModVer: 6.0.3275.0 ModStamp:42cad9ef
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00079348

BUCKET NUMBER:
Bucket 287002384, bucket table 1, faulting application onenote.exe, version
11.0.6554.0, stamp 4265828f, faulting module gdiplus.dll, version 6.0.3275.0,
stamp 42cad9ef, debug? 0, fault address 0x00079348.
