Hello.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide. I have been
searching for a solution to this issue for a few days and I don't seem to be
getting very far.
Issue:
MS OneNote 2003 performs slowly/hangs after a few minutes of use in a shared
session. OneNote will consume 100% of one CPU during the hanging.
Troubleshooting:
If a file, that was exhibiting the issue, is opened on a single tablet that
is not in a shared session, OneNote will exhibit the issue. When the file is
closed OneNote will stop exhibiting the issue.
Tried to reproduce the issue on a single tablet not in a shared session.
Several complex drawings using different inks, pen sizes and highlighters
were done on 3 separate pages (concurrently open). Unable to reproduce issue.
File size remained under 1MB.
Placed these three complex pages in a sharing session with one other tablet.
File size jumped to about 2MB.
Added drawings on both tablets.
OneNote still performing well however.
Placed these three complex pages in a sharing session with two other tablets.
File size jumped to about 3MB.
Added drawings on all three tablets.
OneNote still performing well however.
Placed these three complex pages in a sharing session with three other
tablets.
File size jumped to over 4MB.
Added drawings on all three tablets.
OneNote started to lag slightly, consuming a lot of the CPU time when
updating drawings.
Optimized the files using OneNote. No effect on performance.
Wireless network usage remained minimal (under 5% utilization).
The issue we are experiencing may be related to the file size.
Some OneNote files get to 10MB, 20MB, 50MB and even 100MB. I do not see why
the files are so big based on the content.
There is, however a 20MB OneNote file that does not lag much. This file is
not drawing intensive. It has a lot of typed text. After Optimization this
file got reduced to 337KB.
The problem files do not get reduced much after optimization. They remain
within approximately 1MB of their original size.
Cleared OneNote cache. No effect.
Checked for invalid/missing System Recognizers under
"HKLM\Software\Microsoft\TPG\System Recognizers". Only valid ones found in
registry.
