OneNote 2007 (Beta) Activation

Rebecca

Greetings. I downloaded, installed, and have been testing the program, and
it's a winner, indeed. One problem is that whenever I try to activate the
program (via the activation wizard), I keep getting a no-connect message. I
recall reading somewhere that the MS servers have been swamped, due to half a
million downloads, but that was a week or so ago. I have only 36 more
sessions left to try out the product, and I want to use it right up until I
buy MS Office 2007 early next year. Could someone please give me some advice
so I can avoid having the program expire on me? I have already starting
dumping my data into the program.

Why on earth would you dump real life data into a piece of beta software
that you haven't managed yet to activate??

I don't know why your activation is not working. Maybe your Internet
connection has an issue? Have you rebooted?

Try activating late at night or early morning when there would be less
traffic. Also there is an option for telephone activation. I haven't tried
that so I don't know if it's available for beta products but it's something
else to try.

From what we have heard all of the servers are working normally now. You
shouldn't have any further problems.

Thanks, Daniel, but I still can't access in order to activate. I keep
getting the error message: "The activation wizard is unable to find a
connection to the Internet..." even though I am obviously connected to the
Internet. I try in the morning, in the evening, and at all hours of the day.
Is it because I'm trying to access from Korea, though I can't see why that
would make any difference, though you never know. I'm very worried I will
soon run out of sessions because I use the program every day and I am
enjoying it immensely.

Rebecca,

You could uninstall OneNote, download it again (definitely do that!) and
install it again using the keys provided when you download it again.
Maybe that will help?
Your OneNote notebooks and settings will not be affected by this.

Thanks, Patrick. Will that work? Usually on trial versions they don't let
you do this, but I'll trust you and take your advice (and also your advice to
be careful about my data because this is, after all, still a Beta).

Hi Rebecca,

I don't know if this will solve your activation problem. It might.
In order to install a newer beta build, once needs to uninstall the old
one before that. So I have uninstalled two beta OneNote 2007 builds
(Beta 1 and Beta 1 Technical Refresh) already. My settings & notebooks
were preserved and migrated over.
If uninstalling, redownloading and reinstalling doesn't solve your
activation problem, then you should submit a bug. I think Microsoft can
help you bypass activation if everything else fails.
