OneNote 2007: Classroom-worthy?

Nick

Hello,

I have laptop that is fairly new, and am thinking about purchasing Office
Home and Student 2007 as a replacement for my notebook in class. Would
OneNote 2007 be adequate for taking notes in, say, an finance course? Thanks
for your time.

Regards,

Nick

Yes. If you can list some specific concerns about what you're looking to
do, people can offer suggestions.

Notetaking in a classroom is one of the specific designed intentions of
OneNote. You can take materials provided by a professor and annotate them,
do quick math and drawings, and all of the content is searchable later.

Hello,

Yes, I was thinking of notetaking in a very general sense; you know, typing
up some definitions, theory, some quotes, and diagrams. If OneNote 2007 can
do this without hassel and confusion, then I'm sold.

Yes, this will all work fine, except "Diagrams" which can not be created
natively in OneNote.
But it's easy to import diagrams (f.e. from Excel).

Yes it can. If you have a Tablet PC and/or one of the versions of Vista
that supports the Pen interface, you can also handwrite notes and they will
automatically be indexed for searching later.

I am finishing up my Masters degree, and OneNote has been a huge part of me
getting there.

Hello,

If you don't mind me asking, you are finishing your master's degree in what
exacty? I mean, what type of notes do you take with the application (e.g.
verbatim, quotes)? I've been thinking about buying OneNote for quite some
time, but it is pretty pricy, though.

"Pretty pricy" - compared to what?

ON2007 is included in the "Home & Student" package which really has a
fair price.
And even the stand-alone version of ON for sure is worth any Penny paid
for it.

P.S. If you are skeptical, just download the trial version and test it
thoroughly

Is that directed to me?

It's an MS in Information Systems from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
It has been mostly text notes typed/written from lectures, on blank paper
and on "printed" PPT slides and PDFs.

I just finished an "Accounting for Computer People" type of class, and
didn't have any problems keeping up there either with writing formulas and
equations. There isn't support for an equation editor or anything like
that in the product (Those tools exist elsewhere in Office but it is
difficult to use them and try to keep up when taking notes).

Check the college bookstore - there may be academic pricing available on MS
software. It may not be as pricy as you think.

Depending on the university's policies the program may even be available
for free or just a nominal fee.
