Look in your My Documents folder \ OneNote Notebooks folder.

Check the default location of the notebooks via
Tools | Options | Save.

As your are new to ON:

The basic way of working is different from what is used to:
Normally one does not close the notebooks. One just leaves them open and
closes ON.
