OneNote 2007 with Office 2003?

H

Hal

I want to evaluate ON 2007 but do not want to update my other Office 2003
apps. Can I do this? When I try to load ON 2007 Beta I get a failure during
install. It worked previously, then I uninstalled the Beta. Now when I try to
install it I get the error. I took the Office 12 folder out of the registry
before retrying.

You modified the registry before trying it the first time...? That's a
good way to make sure you can't install 2007 again. 2007 is rather
sensitive to manual registry hacks and registry cleaning software.

What error message do you get?

No. First time I just installed it. I had some weird behavior (somehow lost
my admin rights) that may or may not have been associated. In
troubleshooting, I removed ON. Then in cleaning up my other problems, I
manually removed the Office 12 folder from the registry. Later I tried to
reinstall the ON 2007 beta and could not. I will try again and record the
error message and let you know.

The error indicates that "the system cannot find the file specified".
Clean out your %temp% directory. Then get the Windows Install Clean Up
Utility and remove all Office 12/2007 MSIs. Then try again.
If that doesn't' help, then you might have a corrupt download and need
to get the file again. Did you use this particular file before?

The file seems to be OK. After this last response, I took that same file and
installed it with no problem onto my desktop PC. It didn't even ask for a
password.

On the notebook PC (where I have the problem) I cleared out the temp
directory under my profile, and ran the install cleanup utility. I was not
able to find any v2007 MSIs named in the list.

The install progresses to the same point as indicated in the log I pasted in
earlier. So today I know that the file itself is good (installed on my
desktop), but I can't get past this point on my notebook.

You modified the registry before trying it the first time...? That's a
good way to make sure you can't install 2007 again. 2007 is rather
sensitive to manual registry hacks and registry cleaning software.

What error message do you get?

I want to evaluate ON 2007 but do not want to update my other Office 2003
apps. Can I do this? When I try to load ON 2007 Beta I get a failure during
install. It worked previously, then I uninstalled the Beta. Now when I try to
install it I get the error. I took the Office 12 folder out of the registry
before retrying.

over to the system drive and ran it from there, but got the same results.

Patrick Schmid said:
The error indicates that "the system cannot find the file specified".
Clean out your %temp% directory. Then get the Windows Install Clean Up
Utility and remove all Office 12/2007 MSIs. Then try again.
If that doesn't' help, then you might have a corrupt download and need
to get the file again. Did you use this particular file before?

Patrick,
Thanks much for your help on this. I tried the connect site, but cannot seem
to get anywhere. When I click on "Available Connections" to register, it
sends me to a table that does not have the OneNote 2007 (Beta) as an item,
and when I just click on "OneNote" it brings me right back where I started.
Am I missing a critical step?

You modified the registry before trying it the first time...? That's a
good way to make sure you can't install 2007 again. 2007 is rather
sensitive to manual registry hacks and registry cleaning software.

What error message do you get?

I want to evaluate ON 2007 but do not want to update my other Office 2003
apps. Can I do this? When I try to load ON 2007 Beta I get a failure during
install. It worked previously, then I uninstalled the Beta. Now when I try to
install it I get the error. I took the Office 12 folder out of the registry
before retrying.

Hal

Never mind! I had a server update problem. Now that I can scroll down, I
found it.

Thanks

Patrick,
Thanks much for your help on this.

10 GB free on the application/system drive and 3GB free on the drive from
which I launch the installer. On a hunch, I also copied the installer file
over to the system drive and ran it from there, but got the same results.

:

You have sufficient hard drive space on your notebook?

The file seems to be OK. After this last response, I took that same file and
installed it with no problem onto my desktop PC. It didn't even ask for a
password.

On the notebook PC (where I have the problem) I cleared out the temp
directory under my profile, and ran the install cleanup utility. I was not
able to find any v2007 MSIs named in the list.

The install progresses to the same point as indicated in the log I pasted in
earlier. So today I know that the file itself is good (installed on my
desktop), but I can't get past this point on my notebook.

:

The error indicates that "the system cannot find the file specified".
Clean out your %temp% directory. Then get the Windows Install Clean Up
Utility and remove all Office 12/2007 MSIs. Then try again.
If that doesn't' help, then you might have a corrupt download and need
to get the file again. Did you use this particular file before?

Install goes OK thru entering license info and selecting "Upgrade" button.
Then shortly get "Microsoft One Note 2007 (Beta) setup did not complete
successfully..."
