So I've had a huge headache trying to sync a preexisting onenote notebook on
my tablet to a desktop (and have the version stored on the desktop be the
main version) ... here is the info for anyone else:
I tried at first to share my tablet's onenote notebook by:
share->share this notebook 2.)share on: NETWORK and 3. Network Location: a
path on the desktop (it was a shared folder with all the right permissions)
THIS DID NOT WORK.
some of the various errors:
user-mapped section open
some sections could not be synced
onenote cannot access the notebook cache file
SOLUTION:
It should be made clearer that you should create a local notebook on the
server using its onenote, share it there, then open it from satellite
computers.
It took a few days of figuring to sync my tablet's onenote with the desktop.
(I had created the notebook on the tablet first). to make it work I had to:
change the notebook location back to the local (tablet) location, close
notebook, then copy and upload the files to the desktop. Open up the
desktop's onenote, open the onenote notebook, share it (at the local desktop
location). Then on the tablet, I had to open up one note, then "open
notebook", find the newly shared onenote notebook on the network share from
the desktop, select it. and ouila, it works. At this point it helps to close
the old non synched one.
Of course I could have just used my tablet as a the server, but then I'd
have to open up the desktop to have it sync properly instead of the more
intuitive, open up my laptop and have it sync to my desktop for backup.
