OneNote and Office Live Workspace

Can I use Office Live Workspace to keep my OneNote files synchronized?

If so, how? If not, why not?

Thanks in advance.

Daniel,

That sounds great. In practice, however, how on earth do you find out
exactly WHAT you should put in "myaddress.com"? Nothing in my Office Live
workspace tells me what this might be. My Small Business web address
"http://xxxxx.Web.officelive.com" doesn't work. The "network places" web
address "http://xxxxx.workspace.office.live.com" doesn't work.
doesn't work. Yes, I'm putting the /workspace name after it, but OneNote just
keep says "Cannot create...."

Help?

Thanks, but I couldn't see anything on there that helped with the Office Live
problem - it's all about SharePoint, which I don't have.

I can "browse" to the desired Office Live location (into the "Documents"
folder within the workspace), but can't create the notebook at any point
along this path.

Anybody else achieved this?

From other experiments, I can upload a section and access it as an orphan
section in Office Live. The sync is pretty awful: it doesn't sync on demand
but waits about 5 mins to update. So there's no way of working
collaboratively real-time. I hope, if I ever get a notebook working, that it
will better.

(By the way, I can't use Live Sharing because our wireless internet access
at work specifically blocks it.)

Hi,
In office live you have 2 ways to create worspace.
Try this another method (your method also doesn't work for me)

i created a "workspace OneNote2007" on officelive a new
"application/gestion" (it is the french alias name) then i open it.
At this time i see that firefox url is like this :
http://LOGINwebofficelivecom.officelive.com/workspace/OneNote2007/default.aspx
PS : replace LOGIN by your, example if my login is toto, we have

http://totowebofficelivecom.officelive.com/workspace/OneNote2007/default.aspx
Perharps the folder "worspace" doesn't appear or exist for you.

In onenote2007, when you create a new shared notebook select this
directory :
http://totowebofficelivecom.officelive.com/workspace/OneNote2007/

After this you can look a new folder on windows "favorite network"

That is what is great about the Office Live suite. You get sharepoint for
free. That is exaclty how you do it, with the Share point functions on your
workspace. The directions are detailed and it can work.

Check the part where it says it must be part of document manager.

I'm following you step-by-step, Daniel!

yes - I'll call it just "workspace"
"application/gestion" (it is the french alias name) then i open it.

http://LOGINwebofficelivecom.officelive.com/workspace/OneNote2007/default.aspx

No, rather different. My url in IE7 looks like

http://workspace.office.live.com/#B...tODk4NC00YWIxMzQxZDcwNzkAe83sEj3k-WpHo8kff9pL

If I try your format of url, it doesn't work. But let's say it doesn't
matter for now, I'll stick with mine.
PS : replace LOGIN by your, example if my login is toto, we have

Yes, I can select my directory using "Browse" in the Path dialogue, because
my Live Workspace comes up in my favorite places bar or in my network places:

http://xxxxx.workspace.office.live.com/

and I CAN get into the subdirectories to find "workspace". Fine.

BUT

when I press "create" I get a "do you want to create the folder?" "Yes", then

"OneNote cannot create a new note book at
<the location I chose>
Possible reasons include:
<none which I have any control over>"

I've tried at every point in my Live Workspace directory tree and get the
same message every single time.

eg. /workspacename/notebookname, /workspacename/Docs/notebookname/,
workspacename/Docs/ etc.

I can see how it's supposed to work, and I agree, MaseratiSembrati, it'd be
great to get SharePoint features for free. If I could press "create" and it
actually makes a notebook, I'd be very happy.

Thanks for your patience, guys. There's obviously some step missing that
you have done and I haven't. Any other ideas?

I succeeded in linking OneNote to Office Live (Small Business). It is
essential that you use the Small Business version of Office Live:
http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/ This is free as well.

Steps to follow:
- In the main menu (top left) of your Office Live Small Business click on
"Business Applications".
- Click on "Add Application".
- Click on "Your custom applications" and on the radio button at "Blank
Workspace" and "OK".
- Choose a name like "OneNote" (no spaces).
- Click on "Add", "Document Library". Choose a name like "OfficeLive" (no
spaces).
- The default document template should be "Microsoft Office OneNote section"
(don't know if this is needed).
- Click on the newly created Tab and note the url of the page.
This could look like:
http://LOGINwebofficelivecom.officelive.com/OneNote/OfficeLive/Forms/AllItems.aspx

In OneNote:
- New, File, OneNote Notebook
- Name: OfficeLive
- Location: https://LOGINwebofficelivecom.officelive.com/OneNote/
In grey you should see the resulting path to the document library:
https://LOGINwebofficelivecom.officelive.com/OneNote/OfficeLive

When you click the button, the connection should be made and in OneNote you
should see a green connection button.

Note that you should change LOGIN by your loginname, but that should be
obvious when you see your Office Live Small Business URL.

Good luck!

And why, why Microsoft have you made this so difficult ...

Thanks for your post! After about 25 minutes of trial and error I was
able to get it working.

I started by creating a document manager under the business
applications, as you advised. I then created a document library by
clicking the little add button (it comes up as a new tab). I had to
create a folder within the library to store the notebook in. That
pretty much did it.

However, mine is saved under
username.officelive.com/Notebook/Onenote/Forms/AllItems.aspx/NotebookName

You might have to play with the address. I'll throw a guide up with
screen shots later. Good luck!

I take it sharing a notebook in Office Live is only possible with the small
business version. Is it possible with the Personal "free" version?

The new "Live/Cloud" features have not yet been completed.

Rainald
P.S. I assume that you are talking about the new ON20010 Beta.
In the future pls add the version in the subject, f.e.:
"[ON2010] OneNote and ... "

TIA
Rainald
