OneNote and tags

I think OneNote should have tagging feature. This makes it very easy to
cross reference pages and sections. In the current implementation,
Folder/Section/Page tree structure can not reflect the content nature. In
the tree hierarchy structure, it is not practical to assign the same page to
two tree nodes.
And evidence shows that most users don't manage tree structure well.
Tagging is another way to organize and find content, such as in popular
site del.icio.us etc. Although tags system can not replace the folder tree
structure, but it can be a very good complement.
In document system, we already have keywords field. This is really
traditional library stuff. It is pretty much hidden in desktop file's
properties.
Let's give a good example how tags can be used in desktop office
application:
Tablane TClipper
It implements tags on the bottom status bar. Two functions: Tagit and Tags.
Once you create page, whether you copy and paste from web browser, or you
made up yourself, you can add tags by press Tagit. The web page based layout
similar to del.icio.us will popup. The page's tag will show on the bottom,
you can click it to reveal all pages with the tag, or click Tags to show all
tags. Pretty cool.
You can download it from www.tablane.com

Hi Mike,
I am the OneNote needs Tabs spokesperson. I agree with you. The Bad
news is OneNote 2007 will not have tags. It has Flags which aren't
near as useful. EverNote has Tags, but is a different product than
OneNote.

Aloha Mike,

Tags would be very useful and it's something I'm sure is getting consideration
for the next version.

In the meantime have you tried using NoteFlags in that capacity? Also you
can sort of improvise tags by annotating your notes in a certain way, though
I recognize that's not quite as elegant a solution.

Hyperlinking is another way to join related content.

Thanks. That can help a little bit.
I am sure the team has already thought about tags. We hope they use the same
word "tags" in line with the rest of the world.(Very possible they may
choose "Keywords", 1) "tag" is already used in OneNote on toolbar, 2)
"Keywords" has been used in file properties for a while, and it is
searchable by Windows Desktop Search).

OneNote should have left it as Flags as the functionality of OneNote
Flags does not bear resemblance to Tags.
