OneNote needs ability to create hyperlinks

I've find myself using OneNote more and more. However, it sorely lacks the
ability to insert hyperlinks, not only to link references to websites, but to
also insert references to files on the PC, other OneNote tabs, etc. If a
flexible ability to add hyperlinks was included in the product, it would
become a dynamite application.

If you browse to a file on your PC with Windows Explorer, you can
drag-and-drop the file in a OneNote page and ON will give you the option of
inserting a link to that file (rather than inserting the file into the
page).

Choose "Insert a link to the original file" and OneNote will create a link
to that file on your PC with the format of "<file://......>"

You can also set this up by typing the reference in but
dragging-and-dropping is much easier.

Thanks, I'll have to give this a try!

I've used the drag-and-drop methodology and it still falls short of what is
needed to make using OneNote a productive process. There is no way to simply
insert a hyperlink at any point in the document flow, no way to use link
text, and so on.

If I were working as an architect with the OneNote development group I would
be looking at catching up with what Macromedia's Contribute can do. OneNote
already has better localized editing and desktop integration capabilities
while Contribute can say the same for hyperlinking and connectivity with
remote documents which is where OneNote has to catch up. Both applications
need work in their user interface.

I agree. In particular, I'd like to be able to add links to other OneNote
pages. When I'm taking notes in class, there are often times when a
reference to a different place in my notes would be helpful.
