OneNote protection

Is it possible to protect a oneNote file. What i want to do is place file on
net or common server and have others access the file and be able to look at
all pages but not be able to edit any pages. They however need to be able to
download documents that may have been inserted into the onenote file. I guess
i want the pages to be similar to internet pages where u can download files
but not alter the original document in any way.
Thanks

AFAICS this would not work with ON-files in OneNote.

You might try alternatives based on *export* of ON-Content and using a
different file-format for showing the content.
There is quite a variety of possibilities in so far.
For enabling us to make "educated" suggestions pls let us know a bit
more in what you want to achieve as well as the environment.

Without having detailed information on your needs I'd suggest to try out
the following possibilities:

1.) OneNote Web Exporter
http://www.codeplex.com/ONWebber

This will create web-like output.
At first sight my no. 1 candidate for your project.

2.) Export OneNote to PDF (OneNote2PDF)
http://onenote2pdf.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?title=OneNote2PDF Usage

This tool (not too easy to understand at first sight but really
powerful) does create output with PDF-files (with active links for all
hyperlinks on the ON-pages) in a well organized way:
Individual pages in folders named after the sections of a notebook,
folders having the hierarchy of the notebook).
Hyperlinks contained in the notebook are *active* in the PDFs.

Instead of the above you might use the following options of "Save as
...."

1.) PDF
This will create a PDF-file from your selection.
The output will be just *one* file for the selection.

2.) XPS
Same as above but in a different format.
XPS-files can be viewed in the "XPS-Viewer" being a part if IE.

3.) MHT
This will create a continuous page of all pages in a selected
notebook/section.
MHT-files are shown in the default browser.

Pls check the suggestions and let us know what might best fit to your
needs.
If any questions, pls ask.
