OneNote should have XML file format

I just stumbled upon news of Office 12 defaulting to XML file format.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/xml/xmlletter.mspx

There is only mention of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Any chance OneNote
will be designed right, right from the start? Or is its evolution course
carved in stone and already planned to pass through the stone-age before it
catches-up with the other office applications?

Its evolution course is largely determined by feedback from users; nothing
is carved in stone at this point. Whether OneNote will support XML or not
in the next version has not yet been announced.

Given that it has features which Office has not caught up with yet e.g.
instant Save on-the-fly-as-you-type hence no visible Save button on the
toolbar, I don't think OneNote's development is entirely determined by the
evolution of Office.

From time to time, I see fragments in online tech news websites hinting that
XML and Office 12 will be working together more closely. Perhaps this will
also apply to OneNote.

Nothing about the next version of OneNote has been published. I'd agree
that a more accessible and programmable file format would be useful.

It would be strange not to have onenote with XML as well. To me, it
seems like the app that needs it the most.

Here's hoping for .oneX !
